Invisalign

Set of clear aligners resting in an Invisalign® branded case on a blue background While most people seek teeth straightening treatment in order to enjoy the uniform appearance they get, there are also oral health benefits that these treatments offer. However, different teeth-straightening methods produce different results and feel different in the mouth. Invisalign, unlike conventional braces, provides a comfortable, concealed way of straightening teeth. Traditional braces are known to cause a lot of discomfort and can even irritate or hurt the tissues in the mouth including the gums and lips. They also draw attention because others can see that you are wearing braces. Invisalign takes away those downsides of braces by discreetly working to make the teeth straight.

Our dental team at The Strongsville Center for Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry knows that you want a teeth-straightening treatment that is comfortable and delivers results. That is why we provide the Invisalign system to allow you to reclaim your smile.

What is Invisalign?

The Invisalign system involves a sequence of clear plastic aligners or trays that secretly and conveniently work to shift the teeth into place. These trays fit over the teeth and are difficult to notice. As long as you wear your aligners for approximately 22 hours every day, you are able to enjoy the versatility of these prostheses and do away with the frustrations associated with traditional metal braces.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Our team straightens your teeth using a progression of aligners. Foremost, we take an impression of your bite so that we fabricate a series of aligners in the lab. Invisalign aligners are constructed of a thermoplastic material. This material is both strong and flexible, therefore it is comfortable when you wear it for extended periods of time. Also, the material is almost invisible.

Invisalign aligner trays are typically worn for one week. You will then switch them out for the next series of trays. Over a timeframe of several months, the Invisalign aligners are able to slowly and conveniently move the teeth into the right place.

Benefits of Invisalign

One of the advantages of wearing Invisalign aligners is that they are more convenient compared to regular metal braces. Since the aligners are clear, no one is able to tell whether you are wearing teeth-straightening appliances. Invisalign aligners should be worn 22 hours a day and only removed when you want to eat or brush your teeth.

There is no special care required for the prostheses. You just brush and floss as normal, and no extra tools are needed. When wearing Invisalign, there is less risk of your teeth getting stained compared to when wearing metal braces. It is easy to care for the aligners; you just need to rinse them using warm water, and not hot water. You use a denture cleaner to clean them and a soft-bristled brush can get the food particles and debris on the surface out pretty easily.
